Hypertension medication: which drugs classes reduce dementia risk?

Controlling hypertension can reduce dementia risk, but not all drug classes have the same effect, a new analysis finds.

According to Dr Melina den Brok of Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands, hypertension is an important risk factor for dementia. But some medications for hypertension may lower dementia risk more effectively than others.

To address this question, Dr den Brok and colleagues analyzed data from published trials to determine the risk of dementia in patients with hypertension according to the type of drug used to treat hypertension.
