Is there a role for thrombectomy in pediatric patients with large vessel occlusion?

Outcomes are poor in pediatric patients with stroke and large vessel occlusion (LVO) who do not receive thrombectomy, according to researchers in Australia.

While mechanical thrombectomy has improved the treatment of LVO in adults, uptake in pediatric patients has been slow due to limited data on the efficacy of thrombectomy in these patients and on the natural history of LVO without intervention.
