A large COVID-19 registry analysis has shown that older male patients with comorbidities are at a higher risk of ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA) events.
Dr Saate Shakil and colleagues from University of Washington, Seattle, Washington, USA, performed a descriptive analysis of 21,073 COVID-19 inpatients included in the American Heart Association’s COVID-19 cardiovascular disease registry, revealing an overall stroke rate of 1.4%. Of these, 52.6% were ischemic, 2.8% were TIA, and the remainder were hemorrhagic in nature.
